On Saturday (8/03/2025), the Department of History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University held a “Research and Historical Writing Training” activity aimed at undergraduate History students from UNDIP class of 2022. The event was initiated by several lecturers from the Undergraduate History Program, namely Dr. Tri Handayani, M.Si., Keke Pahlevi Daradjati, S.Pd., M.A., Khairana Zata Nugroho, M. Hum., and Desi Susanti, M. Hum. This training marked the first event in a series of activities designed to help students find topics and structure their theses.
The Head of the Undergraduate History Program, Prof. Dr. Dhanang Respati Puguh, M.Hum., opened the event with remarks regarding the relatively long average study period for history students. “With this activity, it is hoped that the 2022 cohort can be motivated to complete their studies by 2026,” Prof. Dhanang explained.

The first presentation was delivered by history lecturer Dr. Tri Handayani, M.Si., with the topic “Tips for Generating Ideas and Developing Ideas in Historical Research and Writing.” Dr. Tri Handayani explained that various inspirations for research ideas can actually be found by students in their surroundings, such as their environment, by exploring available literature, and by trying out new atmospheres for writing when facing writer’s block.
The second presentation was given by Keke Pahlevi Daradjati, S.Pd., M.A., with material titled “The Use of Visual Sources in Historical Research” as an important source in historical studies. She emphasized the need for diligence when interpreting visual sources due to their relation to the context of the era. One example is the portrayal of women during the Japanese occupation in the magazine Djawa Baroe, which requires careful interpretation.

Through this initial training session, it is hoped that students will gain knowledge and inspiration in composing their thesis. The next activity will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, featuring two other speakers and focusing on exploring historical sources such as newspapers and articles in reputable journals (KZN).
